PROPOSALS FOR A WORLDWIDE MODULAR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
VORSCHLAEGE FUER EIN WELT WEITES MODULSYSTEM IM DISTRIBUTIONSBEREICH
Distribution costs can be reduced by optimum exploitation of transportation, handling and storage facilities and by optimum packaging and distribution systems. These efforts have led to the concept of the unit load, e.g., the pallet for piece goods, and the laying down of standard dimensions for packaging. However, discrepances arise in the various pallet dimensions and packaging modules and in recently developed transportation, handling, and storage techniques; and the situation is often unfavorable for achieving low distribtuion costs. In this article, proposals are made on a possible basis for a worldwide modular system that allows for the realities in the economics of transportation.
