Investigating the Factors Related to the Registration of Electric Bicycle Licenses in China

This study investigated the individual characteristics, household characteristics and travel information factors contributing to the registration of electric bicycle license in China. An online survey was conducted on March and April, 2014 and 896 persons who used electric bikes completed the survey. Among them, 30.58% of respondents have registered the electric bike license while 69.42% of them did not complete the registration. A binary logit (BL) model was estimated in the study to evaluate the impacts of various factors on the registration of electric bicycle license. The results showed that several contributing factors were found to have a significant impact, including gender, age group, education level, automobile license, electric bike ownership in household, car ownership in household, average household income, and frequency of travel by electric bike. A multinomial logit (MNL) model was estimated to examine the reasons for not registering the license among various electric bike users. The results of this study can help better understand the behaviors of registration of electric bicycle license by electric bike users in China. Policies can be made to promote the proportions of registration of electric bike license.
