TRANSPORTATION AND THE PERSON

FORECASTS OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY CAN MAKE TO UNDERSTANDING THE INTERPLAY BETWEEN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND BEHAVIORAL SYSTEMS ARE MADE. IMPLICIT BEHAVIORAL ASSUMPTIONS EMBEDDED WITHIN THE TRANSPORTATION POLICIES WILL BE EXAMINED AND THE BEHAVIORAL CONSEQUENCES OF ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION PLANS WILL BE EXAMINED. PROGRESS WILL BE MADE IN STUDYING THE ACQUISITION, DEVELOPMENT, AND STRUCTURE OF THE ENTIRE ARRAY OF TRANSPORTATION BEHAVIORS. SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO TOTAL TRANSPORTATION PLANNING ARE GIVEN.
