Field Demonstration of the Traffic Speed Deflectometer in New York

In this paper, the authors present the results of Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) testing performed in the state of New York. Testing was performed on different pavement sections for a total length of 521 km. The results of the surface curvature index at 300 mm from the load (SCI300) for all tested sections are presented as well as the estimated measurement standard deviation which could also be interpreted as the repeatability of the TSD. The estimation of the standard deviation and therefore repeatability was performed using a single run and the methodology was validated using repeated TSD runs. Estimation of the measurement error standard deviation allows denoising TSD deflection slope measurements using wavelet transform denoising which gives a more accurate estimate of the “true” pavement deflection slope.
