INFORMAL NOTES ON SOCIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF HIGHWAYS

URBAN HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT INVOLVES CERTAIN IMPACTS OF A SOCIOLOGICAL CHARACTER, DISPLACEMENT AND RELOCATION OF RESIDENCE, HIGHWAY AESTHETICS, PRESERVATION OF FISH AND WILDLIFE HABITATS, LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL SERVICES INCLUDING EDUCATION, FIRE AND POLICE PROTECTION, AND LIBRARIES. EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE TO QUANTIFY SUCH EFFECTS IN ORDER TO MEASURE THIS SOCIOLOGICAL IMPACT.
