THE APPLICATION OF THE INVARIANCE PRINCIPLE FOR DEVELOPING A SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING THE COURSE OF A SHIP

The effect of controlling a ships course assuming an invariant rolling condition is discussed in the general form analytically. The study is based on a system of equations characterizing the motion of a ship on a horizontal plane and an algorithm of the control of the ships course which includes the change from a heeling condition into the course angle. The solution of the equations relative to the course angle leads to the conclusion that the course stabilization and controllability can be improved by the discussed method. The statistical error of the system characterized by a function showing that it can increase when a perturbing force is generated or it can be offset within certain limits depending on the balancing of the ship.
