LEGAL NOISE LIMITS DEMAND IMPROVED ENGINES AND SUBSYSTEMS

Legislation on overall vehicle noise means that components and subsystems will have to be closely scrutinized and often quieted drastically. Here's a summary of current problems and some recommended noise reduction practices. Not surprisingly, many designers need advice on how to conduct a noise abatement program. In this connection one theme keeps repeating; set an overall goal, isolate and measure individual sources, then develop components to target noise levels.
