SOLUTIONS FOR POINT LOADS AND GENERALIZED CIRCULAR LOADS APPLIED TO A CROSS-ANISOTROPIC HALF SPACE

This paper presents solutions to the full range of load types applied to circular areas on a cross-anisotropic elastic half space. Point loads are considered as a special case. The five load types are: (I) vertical force; (II) horizontal force; (III) moment about a horizontal axis; (IV) moment about a vertical axis; and (V) radial shear stresses. Using integral transform techniques, the general solutions for all displacement, strain, and stress components are given for quite general forms of distribution of the loading stresses. The particular loading stress distributions of the forms (1 - R squared) to the power of Q and R( - R squared) to the power of T are of practical importance and the solutions for the displacements, strains, and stresses are given in terms of sums of hypergeometric functions for this case. The solutions for point loads are developed by introducing the dirac delta function and are evaluated as simple functions. The solutions produced have practical importance in soil and rock engineering, particularly for complex load distributions including loading through a plate (E.G., Raft Foundations). The nature of the half space analyzed represents the commonly occurring situation where the loaded soil or rock masses are anisotropic. /Author/
