A project testing porous pavement will be conducted in Florida throughout the next five years. This pavement is designed to let water drain directly through it into the ground where percolation will destroy road surface pollution. It should also reduce soil erosion and run-off which will inturn eliminate the pollutants carried into streams, lakes, and ponds by runoff. During the first year, effort will be concentrated on selection of the best base material and the specific locations for the testing. The remaining four years will be devoted to testing of the porous pavement for porosity, viscosity, and durability, and comparing it with the conventional pavement to be used in control sections of the testing. Along with engineering and biological tests, a survey of motorists will be taken to appraise their opinion of the experimental road surface.
