AUTOMATIC CONTROLS FOR STREET LIGHTING

This article describes solar dial time switches which incorporate an eccentric cam and preset tappets, thus ensuring that street lighting is switched on and off at dusk and dawn and enabling daily corrections to be carried out automatically spring-reserve time switches ensure drive to the timing mechanism for up to 9 hours in the event of a power failure. A brief review is presented of light sensitive devices, with or without solid state electronic circuitry, that can enable lighting in conditions of inadequate natural light at any time. /TRRL/
