COMPARISION OF TWO METHODS FOR ASSESSING RESIDUAL STRESSES IN RAILS
Study to assess the possibility of determining the maximum residual stresses on the rolling surface of rail head, in the web, and in the central portion of the rail foot from data on the contraction of the longitudinal gap cut in a rail web. The results obtained in measuring 119 specimens heat-treated and straightened by different techniques were statistically processed to determine the residual stresses by gap cut and strain gage methods.
