NOISE IN TOWNS

Noise pollution has become a matter of growing public concern in recent years. As the volume of road and air traffic has increased and industry developed, so has the urgency to find out more about the noise problem and introduce controls. Research into the main aspects of environmental noise forms an important part of the work of the building research establishment and considerable progress has been made particularly in the field of road traffic noise. The following article reviews the achievements and potential benefits of this research in contributing to a more acceptable noise environment in our towns. /Author/
