TOURIST MAP OF THE UNITED STATES NEEDS A GREAT DESIGNER

The automobile road map produced in hundreds of millions each year has been the standard tourist map of the United States. But this map originated for the limited purpose of showing road data, not describing the land for the tourist. It become a device to sell gasoline and acquired a rigid format to permit low costs mass production. Now gasoline shortage is changing our touring patterns, ending free road maps, and giving new opportunity to create a genuine tourist map. A design concept is proposed for mapping the varied regions of our country in their distinctive characters in the manner of notable European tourist maps. /AUTHOR/
