FIRST U.S. CITY-CENTRE PEOPLE MOVER DEBUTS IN MORGANTOWN, W. VA.

A DEMONSTRATION PROJECT FOR THE FIRST PERSONAL RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM IN THE USA HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA. OPERATING ON 21/4 MILES OF GUIDEWAYS, 5 SMALL, COMPUTER CONTROLLED, DRIVERLESS CARS WILL OPERATE BETWEEN THREE STATIONS. THE PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE EFFICIENCY AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF THE SYSTEM WHICH WILL ULTIMATELY HAVE 128 CARS SERVING 6 STATIONS ON 3.5 MILES OF TWIN-TRACK GUIDEWAY. /TRRL/
