USE OF DATA PROCESSING IN TAXICAB CONTROL

DISPATCHING IS RECOGNIZED AS THE MOST CRITICAL PROBLEM FACING OPERATORS OF DEMAND RESPONSIVE VEHICLES AND THREE TECHNICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE FIELD ARE SUGGESTED. THEY ARE: (1) DATA PROCESSING FOR RECEIPT, ASSIGNMENT, RETENTION AND MATCHING OF REQUESTS FOR SERVICE AND UNITS AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE; (2) DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT FOR TRANSMISSION OF MESSAGES BETWEEN MOBILE UNITS AND BASE; AND (3) AUTOMATIC VEHICLE MONITORING. EXPERIENCES OF THE TAXICAB COMPANY IN IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FIRST IMPROVEMENT IS DESCRIBED AND IS CONCLUDED TO BE TECHNICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE.
