Ways to reduce CO2 emissions from on-highway, heavy duty diesel engines

This paper covers approaches to reduction of CO2 emissions from heavy duty diesel engines used in long distance transport. The source of the paper is the EC sponsored CORE project in Framework 7. The main topics reported are the improvements due to evolution of the combustion and fuel injection systems, down-speeding, hybridisation, variable valve activation on diesel engines and a natural gas engine, advanced turbocharging, friction reduction and exhaust after-treatment system.
