ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SAFETY AGAINST OVERTURNING AND DERAILMENT OF GOODS WAGONS, PARTICULARLY WELL WAGONS
ERMITTLUNG DER SICHERHEITGEGEN KIPPEN UND ENTIGLEISEN VON GUTERWAGEN INSBESONDERE DER TIEFLADEWAGEN
The German Federal Railway has carried out a through mathematical study of the risks of overturning and derailment of special and exceptional wagons, in the case of more than 10 examples of critical running and stresses--running at slow speed on curves with maximum superelevation, negotiation of connection ramps on curves, loads unevenly distributed over the wheels, negotiation of curves with inadequate superelevation at high speed, and critical overturning moments caused by the wind, the position of the centre of gravity of the load, and the tractive or compression forces. The calculations, and safety regulations to be observed, are reproduced in the above article, and two numerical examples are shown.
