The author discusses the formulae adopted by different railways (the German Federal Railway, the American railways, the Japanese railways, the railways in the Soviet Union, British Raiwlays, the French Railways, and the Italian Railways) in regard to design, dimensions, loading estimates, the reaction of the ballast, flexion, the quality of the concrete, the reinforcement, the rate of compression of the concrete, and the acceptable prestressing tolerances.
