THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF ROAD DEVELOPMENT ON THE COMMUNITY ARE EXAMINED, AND MENTION IS MADE OF THE REPORT ON NEW ROADS IN TOWNS, PUBLISHED BY THE URBAN MOTORWAYS COMMITTEE, IN WHICH RECOMMENDATINS ARE PUT FORWARD FOR MINIMIZING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF ROAD AND MOTORWAY DEVELOPMENTS ON THE COMMUNITY. THE M4 CARDIFF OUTER BY-PASS IS CITED AS AN EXAMPLE OF INTER-URBAN MOTORWAY ROUTE LOCATIONS, SELECTED AFTER COMBINED STUDIES BY CONSULTING ENGINEERS AND PLANNING SPECIALISTS. DEVELOPMENT-OPTIONS, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, LANDSCAPE AND AGRICULTURE WERE THE FOUR PLANNING ASPECTS STUDIED.
