STOL AIRCRAFT IN FUTURE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS

TRAVEL CHARACTERISTICS AND HABITS ARE EXAMINED IN ORDER TO SHOW HOW SHORT TAKEOFF AND LANDING (STOL) AIRCRAFT CAN DRAMATICALLY REDUCE THE NOISE AND LAND USE PROBLEMS. IN PARTICULAR, THE FOLLOWING TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED: AIRPORT CONNGESTION; COMMUNITY NOISE; AIRPORT LOCATION AND LAYOUT; AND TRAFFIC GROWTH AND AIRPORT SYSTEM FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM AND THE LONDON AREA IS SUGGESTED TOGETHER WITH A PROPOSED STOL AIRLINER DESIGN TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS. /IAA/
