MEASUREMENTS OF THE TRANSMISSION OF NOISE BY OBJECTS AND THROUGH THE AIR ON UNDERGROUND RAILWAYS

KORPERSCHALL--UND LUFTSCHALLMESSUNGEN AN UNTERIRDISCHEN SCHIENENBAHNEN

A complete and detailed analysis of the direct and indirect causes of the stimulation of the transmission of noise by the rolling stock and way and works. The above article contains a description of the methods of measurement applied, as well as graphs showing the results of the enquiry carried out on the underground railways in the German Federal Republic. The different levels of noise were recorded in relation to the speeds, and load per axle, in the case of the substructure, the permanent way, the rolling stock, and the type of building. The author provides details of a number of improvements which have been made, with a view of effecting a reduction in the level of noise in the tunnels.
