APPEAL BODIES FOR HIGHWAY RELOCATION ASSISTANCE

STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS AND TRANSPORTATION AGENCIES HAVE A CONTINUING NEED TO KEEP ABREAST OF OPERATING PRACTICES AND LEGAL ELEMENTS OF SPECIAL PROBLEMS INVOLVING THE ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW PROCEDURES ESTABLISHED BY THE VARIOUS STATES TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE HIGHWAY RELOCATION ASSISTANCE ACT OF 1968. THE PROMPT AND EQUITABLE RELOCATION AND REESTABLISHMENT OF PERSONS, BUSINESSES, FARMERS, AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS DISPLACED AS A RESULT OF FEDERAL HIGHWAY PROGRAMS AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF FEDERAL- AID HIGHWAYS IS BELIEVED NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT A FEW INDIVIDUALS DO NOT SUFFER DISPROPORTIONATE INJURIES AS A RESULT OF PROGRAMS DESIGNED FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC AS A WHOLE. THE REPORT PRESENTS A COMPILATION OF THE ADMINISTRATION REVIEW PROCEDURES ESTABLISHED BY THE VARIOUS STATES AS WELL AS THE BACKGROUND INFORMATION NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THE MAGNITUDE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE RELOCATION PROBLEM. /AUTHOR/
