TIME-SAVING METHODS IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING - CHAPTER 14: SUMMARY, SELECTED REFERENCES, AND SUBJECT INDEX

SOME 1500 MEMORANDA WERE RECEIVED IN ANSWER TO THE 87 QUESTIONS ASKED OF THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS ON THE SUBJECT OF TIME-SAVING PRACTICES. THERE WAS A COMPLEMENTARITY OF ENGINEERING AND ADMINISTRATIVE SOLUTIONS. DEPARTMENTAL REORGANIZATION, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, PERSONNEL TRAINING AND ORGANIZATION WERE AS MUCH A CONCERN AS THE PERENNIAL PROBLEMS OF PLANNING, PROGRAMMING, POLICY, AND BUDGETTING. POPULAR TIME-SAVING ENGINEERING METHODS INCLUDED: AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY, HIGH-SPEED COMPUTING, STATISTICAL CONTROL, NOVEL COMMUNICATION FACILITIES, PHOTO-REPRODUCTION EQUIPMENT, MICROFILM, STANDARD CHARTS, TABLES MANUALS, DESIGNS, AND FORMS, AND MODIFICATION OF METHODS OF MEASUREMENT TO PERMIT PAYMENT ON LUMP SUM BASIS. A SUBJECT INDEX OF PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY IS PROVIDED.
