MOBI-ROMA Developing Mobile Observation Methods for Road Maintenance Assessments

MOBI-ROMA (2011-2013) developed, tested and evaluated improved, affordable and moderate-cost road condition and performance assessment techniques, which offer new effective tools for monitoring and assessing maintenance needs in countries with varying climatic conditions. The emphasis was on road surface condition monitoring using Floating Car Data (FCD) coming from the vehicles’ internal sensors through the CAN-bus or simple devices mounted on the vehicle. Similar techniques with suitable sensors were used also for assessing the strength of the roadbed or need for winter maintenance.
