Extraction of Blocked Road Regions by Analysis of High-Resolution Satellite Images

It is important to grasp information over a wide area so that vehicles can reach stricken areas for rescue and support activities after a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake or tsunami. Thus, the authors extracted areas of blocked road after a large-scale disaster using satellite images, which are hardly affected by disasters. In particular, the authors previously proposed a method that coped with damage due to both an earthquake and a tsunami such as after The Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake on March 11, 2011. This method is expected to be useful for searching routes comprising passable roads. In this paper, the authors propose a method of improving the precision of extracting areas of blocked road based on their previous method.
