The New Zealand Highway Agency (NZHA) uses Bluetooth for vehicle detection in order to assess the impact of a road project as it is being constructed. The system is collecting traffic data on the new Waikato Expressway. The scheme is also being used as a test for the accuracy and reliability of the system, which could lead to its adoption for monitoring and data collection across the country’s road network. The Bluetooth vehicle detection system assesses changes in travel time and route choice, providing real-time information.
