Managed lanes for Illinois toll payers

The Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in Illinois will be one of the first United States toll roads to use active traffic management (ATM) technology, which was originally developed in Europe. Implementation of plans began in 2014 and will continue through 2016. Implementation includes reconstruction and widening of highways. ATM technology will be installed during the construction stage on overhead gantries and give drivers real-time traffic information. Traffic cameras will be upgraded from analogue to digital, and weather stations are being improved for more accurate detection of conditions. The traffic control center will monitor the road. Plans for construction focused on minimizing environmental impact.
