Development of pedestrian portable terminal for ITS

This paper describes the newly developed prototype Pedestrian-Portable-Terminal (PPT) to realize Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) communication for pedestrian’s road safety. The PPT can inform pedestrian’s existence to vehicles around it and make pedestrians take notice of the traffic situations. The authors have designed the PPT according to the 700 MHz band ITS standard. To downsize the terminal, they have experimentally produced an ASIC which includes RF, baseband process and peripheral components for wireless communication. Meanwhile, they have developed a metal clip antenna in order to balance downsizing terminal with securing antenna performance.
