Integrated Transport Solutions -Approach and Concept -

This paper addresses the authors approach and concept to enhance the quality of mobility (QoM). To achieve the fundamental desire for mobility, various sets of solutions are compiled from five viewpoints based on city characteristics as Integrated Transport Solutions. The architecture of integrated transport solutions, or intelligent transportation systems (ITS), consists of four layers: mobility infrastructure, energy infrastructure, information infrastructure and core technologies. Although ITS is the whole concept, three solutions are highlighted: urban transport solutions, highway solutions from mobility infrastructure, and transport-related energy solutions from energy infrastructure. Urban transport solutions aim for a congestion-free, low carbon emission world by battery-driven light rail transit (LRT), electric bus with deployment of charging area and park & ride. These three solutions are explained in detail. Core technologies which are the basis of solutions are explained with examples such as sensing technologies, battery technology, and semiconductor device technologies.
