Development of EV/PHEV Charging System with Communication Technologies
Due to demand for decreasing CO₂ emissions and improving fuel-efficiency of vehicles, research and development of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is being revitalized worldwide. Sumitomo Electric has many technologies about EV/PHEV for both vehicle and infrastructure. The authors have developed a prototype of PHEV, named S-ELV (Sumitomo Electric Vehicle), for the purpose of improvement of system design skills and technology evaluation based on vehicles. In this paper, the authors introduce the outline of S-ELV and equipped technologies, and propose how to utilize road to vehicle communication technologies for EV/PHEV.
