Enhanced Spot Communication System using WAVE

Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) is a newly established standard assuming communications for vehicle to infrastructure (V2I), vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and others, mainly discussed on IEEE 802.11p. WAVE defines the communication protocol and wireless media, but doesn’t define applications. So, concrete communication parameters and operation procedures for each application should be designed by the system integrator or the operator. The authors made a study on WAVE implementation which fulfills the spot communication system for V2I. The original WAVE communication equipment for V2V system can’t fulfill the authors V2I system in performance side. Hence, the authors have developed the enhanced WAVE communication equipment applicable to spot communication for approximately 10 meters communication zone. This technological development is characterized by optimized communication parameter such as channel coordination and synchronization method. Finally the authors have examined not only equipment performance but also the functional fulfillment within the autonomous EFC system.
