A Cell Transmission Model Applied to Level of Service Control of Freeway Traffic via Ramp Metering

This paper applies Cell Transmission Model to determine ramp metering rate to maintain freeway mainline serve in certain Level of Service. The control can increase permitted vehicles entering into a freeway as could as possible without increasing delay but slight decreasing speed. The permission is a range in a certain level of service. Therefore, the method could be more practical and flexible to execute for fluent freeway traffic.
