The Deployment of ITS Spot Service in the Chubu Region
In this paper, the authors consider the characteristics of the Chubu region and the initiatives of "intelligent transportation systems (ITS) spot service” currently being deployed in the region. The authors present an outline of the regional characteristics and services, and the conditions of use for this service up to the current point in time. Subsequently, the authors discuss improvements as well as future directions in the presentation of this service. “ITS spot service” is a new information service for road users that was initiated in Japan in 2011. The Chubu region is an important industrial production base located in the central region of Japan where climate conditions can greatly vary and large-scale earthquakes may occur, therefore, highly accurate and up-to-date information is desired for road users.
