Engineering and architecture in station security

In order to assist in designing railway stations for improved security against terrorist attacks, the European Union (EU)-funded SecureStation research program has been developing guidelines to help prepare for the unexpected while supporting everyday operation. The program has drawn on input from security experts, rail businesses and public agencies in six countries, along with architectural, security and engineering analysis. Details of the security design guidelines are presented here, including those that relate to the following issues: a security framework, preventative and recovery measures, design for blast effect, and risk analysis and decision-making,
