SWEDISH SHIPYARDS FACE A CRITICAL PERIOD
Although production and order book figures are good, Swedish shipyards are facing two serious problems. In the absence of any Government loan facilities, the yards incur losses when extending credits to shipowners. Also the continued employment of workmen supplied illegally by private employment agencies may subject them to fines, though these workers are needed to maintain production. The structure of the industry is discussed, with details of interrelationships between the major yards. A table shows structure, age and size of Swedish shipyards.
