Approach to Disaster using Telematics

Many people experienced the Great Japan Earthquake while they were driving. The breakdown of traffic lights accompanied by the blackout after the earthquake, led to serious traffic jams in the affected areas. What was worse, many people were swallowed by tsunami while driving, without knowing that tsunami was after them because of partially disconnected communication situation. This paper explains approaches to understand traffic situation using floating car data and to deliver accurate information to people driving at the time of disaster.
