Application of Advanced Traveler Information Systems – Development and Prospect of Taipei City ATIS Web

In the past, the primary methods to solve traffic problems were to build road systems and create roadside traffic facilities. Due to limited land resources, means mentioned above are no longer effective. Therefore, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) has become an effective way to solve traffic problems. During April 2006, Taipei City ATIS Web was released to public, providing real-time information, such as bus information, traffic information, parking lots, etc. After years of expansion, the system incorporates other information, such as navigation, international public transport information, YouBike, etc. This paper introduces the history and system architecture of Real-Time Traffic Information of Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government. Meanwhile, this paper also discusses the future of Taipei City ATIS Web, hoping that the website will provide more features and more convenient real-time traffic information to public.
