Analyzing Slowing-Down and Stopping Behavior to Check the Surroundings when Entering an Intersection
To build a system to analyze and visualize driving risks and to reduce accidents at intersections, we are working to develop technologies for analyzing stopping and slowing-down behavior immediately before entering an intersection, important steps in preventing accidents. The author have developed a technology that analyzes lateral images taken by cameras attached to both sides of a vehicle and accurately identifies different entry points for each intersection ( the boundary between the intersection and any barriers, such as buildings adjacent to the intersection). This technology makes it possible to perform a detailed analysis of driving behavior by comparing a vehicle’s behavior, such as a change in speed, before and after reaching entry points to an intersection. This paper shows how this technology can be used to analyze specific behaviors that need to be avoided to improve driving safety, including risk factors that differ from driver to driver.
