A Quantitative Study of Traffic Characteristics base on MTC Data from Tianjin Highway network

MTC data provides a possibility of understanding the traffic characteristics in the highway network, in terms of providing the traffic volume, average travel time, distance and speed information. This paper aims to analyze traffic characteristics on the highway network in Tianjin based on Manual Toll Collection (MTC) data. The traffic characteristics are studied in holidays and non-holidays. It is demonstrated that freight vehicles tend to conduct longer trips than passenger vehicles. Furthermore, the research results indicate different traffic characteristics of different sub-areas.
