An Analysis of Parking Duration for Short-term Prediction of Congestion at Rest Area Using Individual Detection Data

Due to the progress of sensing technology, it is possible to generate useful information for efficient management of car parks at rest area utilizing the data on usage at each parking lot. This study is aimed at developing prediction model of occupancy at car park with short prediction range using the data obtained by magnetic sensor system. In this study, two different methods are introduced, namely 1) prediction of occupancy using linear regression analysis, and 2) prediction of the expected number of vehicles continuously parking using parking duration distribution. In this study, the proposed methods are actually applied for the prediction of level of congestion at Shimizu Parking Area in order for examining the availability of the methods.
