Cooperative System Applied on Merging Assistance in China
Merge points on expressway is the area with more accidents. Currently, the methods of merging assistance are static which cannot give the information based on the real-time traffic state. Cooperative system based on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication has been selected as a good way for the road safety in some other countries. But the application of cooperative system for road safety is just beginning in China. And the traffic situation on merge area is quite complex with different hidden risks caused by the traffic violations. By analyzing the potential risks at the merge points, this paper designs the merging assistance system based on Vehicle-infrastructure cooperative technology and descripts the first experiment cooperative system for safety on the merging area on expressway in China. The system uses a variety of traffic sensors to collect the real-time traffic state at merge area; Software and data processing are designed based on multi task parallel reception, pretreatment and high risk high priority logic control principle, while the decision-making unit process data and decision making and data update; finally the merging assistance is issued based on real-time traffic state by cooperative method and variable message sign (VMS).
