Simulator vs. real traffic conditions: how different parameters influence the transferability of results

Currently, there is not a sound methodological approach for translating the driving simulator results in real traffic conditions, as accurately as possible, without being dependent on either the technical characteristics or the specific research hypotheses of each experiment. In the same sense, it is not known under which conditions such an approach would be valid to follow. An experimental plan has been developed for proving such a method which has been established for accommodating the transferability of driving simulator results into real traffic conditions. This manuscript discusses the selected conditional parameters, the reasons of their selection in contradiction to others, the corresponding research hypotheses and the results that reveal how each parameter contributes to the different achieved levels of transferability for the specific type of driving simulator.
