WEST COAST MAIN LINE GETS 5000 HP ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES

In addition to a new build of thirty-five 25 kV ac electric locomotives, older units are being refurbished to provide British Railways with a total fleet of 232 of which 86 will be geared for inter-city passenger service at 110 mile/h.
