A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR OPTIMIZING THE ASSIGNMENT OF MAN AND MACHINE IN PUBLIC TRANSIT

AN INTEGER LINEAR PROGRAMMING MODEL WAS SET UP TO MINIMIZE LABOR COSTS BY AN EFFICIENT METHOD OF SCHEDULING. THIS MODEL COULD NOT BE USED, HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE MILLIONS OF VARIABLES AND CONSTRAINTS. SUBSEQUENTLY, A HEUERISTIC MODEL WAS SET UP TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, WAS TESTED, AND WAS FOUND VALID AND ECONOMICAL TO USE. /UMTA/
