LAWTON METROPOLITAN AREA TRANSPORTATION STUDY-COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

THE REPORT CONTAINS RESULTS OF A COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING STUDY OF THE LAWTON, OKLAHOMA, METROPOLITAN AREA FROM WHICH A LONG-RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN WAS SYNTHESIZED. STUDY FINDINGS WERE BROKEN DOWN INTO FOUR GENERAL CATEGORIES FOR ANALYSIS: SOCIOECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POPULATION, EXISTING TRAFFIC FACILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS, TRAFFIC MOVEMENT AND ASSIGNMENT, AND TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. THE DATA WAS ANALYZED TO GENERATE A RECOMMENDED TRANSPORTATION PLAN. THE GOAL OF THIS PLANNING INSTRUMENT WAS TO SUGGEST CHANGES IN THE STREET AND HIGHWAY NETWORK (AND SUCH ANCILLARY FACILITIES AS TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PARKING) WHICH WOULD MEET THE DEMANDS PROJECTED FOR 1985. A RECOMMENDED EXPRESSWAY AND ARTERIAL STREET SYSTEM IS ADVANCED ALONG WITH A FOUR-STAGE SCHEDULE OF IMPROVEMENTS. COSTS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM ARE OUTLINED IN DETAIL. THE AUTHORS PROPOSED AN ADDITIONAL SERIES OF CONTINUING STUDIES TO MONITOR PROGRESS. A FINAL SECTION OF THE REPORT EXAMINES FINANCIAL ALTERNATIVES FOR LONG-RANGE IMPLEMENTATION. /UMTA/
