Advanced Train Management System update

On 1 July 2008 the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to develop and test a new type of Train Management System that will allow for the removal of all conventional trackside signals and install a positive control system in the locomotive of all trains that routinely use the ARTC Managed Network. Since signing, Lockheed Martin and its major technology partner, Ansaldo STS, have been busy designing, building and testing this new capability. This paper will address the status of the program and the results of laboratory and field testing that were successfully completed in November 2012 for the ATMS Proof of Concept Program.
