Rural Road Development in India: An assessment of distribution of PMGSY project benefits in three states by gender and ascribed social groups

India's Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) program was implemented in 2000 to provide roads to unconnected rural areas. Household surveys and focus group discussions in Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh were used to determine PMGSY's effect on employment, occupational choices, income and economic opportunities. In addition, this report focuses on the impact of the PMGSY program on women, members of scheduled castes, tribes and other weaker social groups.
