Partnership builds bridges

The art of collaboration is refined by two state departments of transportation (DOTs) in order to design less expensive and better infrastructure in the form of the design and construction of third longest cable-stayed bridge in the U.S. - the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge in St. Louis, Missouri. It spans the Mississippi River between Missouri and Illinois and relieves gridlock by adding another access point on the river. Collaboration was crucial on this project, and the two neighboring states have a long-standing partnership. Details of the design and construction process are presented here, which actually involved 37 different projects requiring oversight by both Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) individually and jointly.
