Metros at heart of Saudi urban transport projects

As one of the few countries in the world that has virtually no public transportation in its major cities, the fact that Saudi Arabia is now rapidly developing plans for comprehensive bus and rail networks is newsworthy. Public transport networks in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and Dammam are beginning to take shape with metro lines, as well as bus rapid transit (BRT). The bus network must be extensive due to the fact that people are not willing to walk long distances in the intense summer heat.
