The integrated cross-border maritime law enforcement operations (ICMLEO) program authorizes Canadian and United States law enforcement officers to enforce the laws of the other nation. This collaboration enhances partnership and leverages resources on both sides to counter criminal activity. Shiprider grants law enforcement personnel the authority to enforce laws of another nation, removing a major obstruction from apprehending cross-border criminals. Law enforcement personnel undergo a rigorous selection process to become designated ICMLEO officers. The training course is led by both U.S. and Canadian instructors, who teach candidates to adapt to the criminal and privacy laws of the host country in which they will be operating. Pilot programs have validated shiprider effectiveness.
